BACK TO BASICS
The lessons learned through Kids Cooking for Life go well beyond culinary skills.
KIDS COOKING FOR LIFE, a Bay Area nonprofit, is working to make sure kids can find their way around the kitchen when they’re at just the right age for it. “These days, there are so many students who graduate from high school, and they can code, but they can’t cook,” says Saeri Yuk.
Charities grow love of cooking, service among youth
It's a centuries-old tradition that the holiday season includes giving and receiving luscious foods. As we near the end of 2024, we're looking at gifts of food in a different way: suggesting an equally delicious option for holiday gifting that keeps on giving for years.
It's the gift of support for nonprofit organizations devoted to helping people heal through learning about food as medicine, and with programs aimed at kids from ages 8 on up.
Bay Area Parent
Learning to cook can be beneficial for all children. But for kids with special needs, learning to prepare healthy I meals can have amazing results, says Lara Rajninger, executive director of Kids Cooking for Life (KCL), a nonprofit based in Larkspur that teaches low-income and special needs children nutrition and cooking.
Marin Gives Back 2024
Our Marin Gives Back annual feature always ranks high among our most read stories of the year — and for good reason. Marin’s nonprofits make a real difference in our community, by helping children, seniors, the homeless, families, animals, the environment and so much more.
Best Youth Services in Marin

Their well-trained staff will bustle into a classroom to walk students through how to cook healthy, delicious meals. They also offer virtual home lessons.
